Queen Elizabeth II, the reigning monarch of Britain and its 15 other commonwealth territories, turns 87 today!
The Queen has celebrated her birthday very privately at her favourite place,Windsor Palace,with family and close friends.
Since her birthday falls on sunday this year,there has not been any gun salutes today.It will be on the next day i.e. Tomorrow on Monday.
As per the customs,there will be 21 gun salutes fire at Hyde Park, 41 from the Great Park of Windsor and 61 gun shots atop the iconic Tower of London.
Lots of Singsong too!
There are surprisingly two birthdays of the current monarch : Personal and Official !
April 21st is her personal birthday And the official one falls on some saturday in June every year!
Her personal birthday has a bit less pageantry than that of the official one for the latter has the customary very spectacular Parade Songs, Known as TROOPING COLOUR.
The more common reason given behind this is that of the weather as the month of June has least chances of shower like that of in April famed for its spring downpours And that's why June has fairer time for such a celebratory occasion.
Edward VII,the earlier monarch,too,had two birthdays,the first i.e. The personal one was to be celebrated in November whereas the official in May or June !
All these seem quite unusual or at least without any sense whatsoever !
But, well, then The very institution of Monarchy In Modern Democracy, In Itself, Is Unusual Or At Least, Appears So As We Don't Have Any Sound Reasoning As Far As The Very Compatiblity Of The Twos : MONARCHY and DEMOCRACY !
The reigning monarch has seen a very special moment of her reign and that is that this year she completes 60yrs on her throne -- a record matchless in the british history,except QUEEN VICTORIA,who was the great great grand mother of the present queen.
And,if the current monarch gets past the month of September in 2015, she will break her granny's record of being the longest reigning Head of state !
MAY HER MAJESTY LIVE MORE AND GET PAST 2015 TO GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE LONGEST SERVING BRITISH MONARCH !
