GABRIELA MISTRAL, Chilean Poet nNobel Laureate, was born this day April 07, in 1889.

She got the Nobel For Literature in 1945 and happened to be the first from Latin America to hv Literature Nobel and overall the fourth woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize!

She also happened to be a tutor of sorts to the another Nobel Awardee ,her compatriot,PABLO NERUDA !

Born in the Vecan,a rural part of Chile,Mistral lost her father when she was just three and her mother took the charge of her.Her elder sister,a village school teacher,had given Gabriela her early education And that had influenced the young poet deeply.After mother,her elder sister,remained the most important female in her life.

Gabriela became a teacher at a young age of 15 and she had had her love interest during that period of her being an elemantary school teacher in some remote part of Chile.Her lover was working in the Railways.Unfortunately,the love episode ended prematurely.
She had to bear a great tragedy when her lover ended his life.

That incident was a life changer for the budding poet and her whole of early poetry writings bore the theme of Pain,Suffering n Lost Love !

In fact her whole poetic oeuvre is marked with a rather profound sense of loss!

Gabriela later on became a teacher at a college and had wonsome reputed Chilean Poetry Prize For her three Sonnets : THREE SONNETS OF DEATH !

She had attained considerable reputation inside her country as a poet and later on as the Culturen Education Minister of Chile. Her original interests in academia had gained her wide fame which she furthered later beyond her country in Mexico. She played as a guide in bringing reforms in Education in Mexico.

Gabriela Mistral Was Appointed As Chilean Diplomat And Given postings in various European Countries,SPAIN,FRANCE n ITALY being prominent.
Her reputation spreaded in Europe and she was awarded The Nobel Prize For Literature in 1945.
She donated her prize money for the benefits of Disadvantaged Children.

She was also associated with the League of Nations as Chile's representative and had played a pivotal role in the formation of UNICEF.

Mistral didn't marry and her young age dreams of being a mother ,kept haunting her and she wrote a great deal of Children Centric Literature And Many of Her Poems Carry The Theme of MATERNAL LOVE !

Her subjects were rather limited n repetitive,yet they contain a great deal of emotions that quickly make a chord with the readers!

Despite being a Nobel Laureate, She is little read today !

Gabriela also worked as visiting professor to Bernard College n Vassar College ,NY.

She died of Pancreatic Cance In Hempstead,NY, in 1957.

Her poetry has a great lyrical tempo and passionate appeal.

'DESTRUCTION' , 'TALA' , 'WRITING FOR WOMEN' are some of her famous works.
