HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WALT WHITMAN !

WALT WHITMAN, The Great Grand Oldman of American Poetry And One of The Most Original Authors Writing In English Language, Was Born This Day May 31, 1819 In Westhills, Long Island, USA !

Born Into A Family of Modest Income , Whitman Had Had Virtually Little School Education As He Had To Drop Out In Order To Supplement The Family Income When His Family Shifted To Brooklyn,NY Struggling To Meet The Family Expenses!

Still A Teenager Whitman Got A Job of Printers And Had Gained The Basic Know How That Was To Come In Handy Later When He Got His Seminal Book,'LEAVES OF GRASS' , Self-Published In 1855.

Walt Whitman Had Joined The Profession of Journalism And Had Worked For Many Newspapers n Magazines Before Launching His Own Newspapers .
He Worked Mostly In NY Except One Year In New Orleans Where He Had Seen First Hand The Vicious Plight Of Slaves Which Left An Abiding Imprint On The Young Poet's Psyche And Enhanced His Understanding of America !

Originally Whitman Had Only 12 Poems Which Were Untitled And A Preface For The Book, LEAVES OF GRASS and It Was Only After A Huge Positive Appreciation Plus Support From The Revered American Author n Philosopher,RALPH WALDO EMERSON, That The Rest of Poems Numbering Hundreds Added To The Book Over The Years Through Several Editions Till 1889 When The Final Anthology of LEAVES OF GRASS Appeared !

Whitman Was An Iconoclast For He Revolted Against The Established Form Of Poetry Writing ! He Wrote In Free Verse Showing Least or No Respect For The Traditional ,rather acceptable Practise of Regular Rhyme, Rhythm or Meter.
His Was Free Flow and Spontaneous.
His Subjects were more concerned with the celebration of human body and the multitudes of common man!
His Treatment of Themes Was More Open Plus Unfettered That Had Appeared Shocking n Obscene At That Time,The Latter Was Due To Whitman's Frank Treatment of Human Sexuality n Sensuality ! All These Had Also Earned Him Ill Fame n Censure From Certain Quarters.

Whitman's contributions to poetry was his making it easy to grasp n hence enjoyed and thematically more nearer to the commonfolks! A true Romantic Poet Was He!

'PASSAGE TO INDIA' , 'DRUM TAPS' are two of his other notable works, yet, nowhere near to his Superbrand, LEAVES OF GRASS !

A BIZARRE CASE OF CHILDBIRTH IN CHINA & BABY-59 !

THE RESCUED BABY ! Photo-Credit :
AFPtv.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
'BABY 59' HAS BEEN DISCHARGED
FROM THE HOSPITAL AFTER TWO
DAYS' OF TREATMENT!
The Baby Boy Was Handed Over
To His Maternal Grandparents!
In a bizarre Case of childbirth, a
girl of 22yr n still unmarried,gave
birth inside a shared bathroom
wherein she had gone after
feeling an abdominal cram and
the baby reported slided down
into a sewer pipe and got stuck.
The unwed mom tried to get the
baby out ,but couldn't do
so,finally flushed the baby down!
Later she raised an alarm n told
her landlady who in turn called
the police n the firefighters!
The rescue team had to labor
hard to get the baby out by
sawing the pipe n reached it to
the hospital where doctors had
been treating the baby who had
recieved injuries in his skull n
other bruises!
Today The baby was handed
over to his grand parents after
having a proper investigation
into the case made the police
trust the account of that unwed
mom and declined of any legal
process further for an apparent
example of attempted murder as
it were the case earlier when the
incident came to light !
There Shall Have No Proceedings
Against the mother as the official
version says it was merely an
accident !
The Father Of the baby has been
identified !
The Local Police says the mother
didn't wish to be known as she
had been keeping it a
secret ,otherwise the chances of
being stigmatized would have
increased!
The name of the baby is 59 --
after the number of his hospital
incubator !
The whole affairs have made it to
a global hot item and people
around the globe started to
show sympathy for the mother n
the newborn!

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE 'SENSE OF GRATITUDE' IN OUR LIFE !

In An Era of Competition , Commercialization, Callousness and Complexity, We Have Almost Forgotten That The Very Purpose of Our Life Is Contentment !

In Today's Mad Rat Race The Only Goal Seems Apparent Is Accumulations of Things Materialistic In Nature And The Very Parameter of Success Comes To Mean HOW MUCH WEALTH DOES A MAN POSSESS !

Surprisingly, Almost Everyone Is On A Path That Leads Nowhere Just Because We Have Not Cared To Dig The Goalpost !

The Journey Seems Endless And We Keep Complaining We Have Not Got What We Thought We Will !
And, We Curse The Existence or God or Universal Spirit For Being Partial To Some And Critical To Others !

We Lead A Dissatisfied Life And There Seems No Space In Our Life To Feel Thankful and Hence Blessed !

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

TO HAVE A SENSE OF GRATITUDE IN LIFE IS A GREAT THING AND IT WILL ENHANCE ONE'S PERCEPTION OF THIS EXISTENCE AND THEREBY LESSEN THE CHANCES OF BEING DEPRESSED OVER WHAT ONE HAVE AND WHAT HAVE NOT . .!

Being grateful to this universal management, one can easily come to term with his/her life And This Will In Turn Enhance One's Acceptivity -- a quality required for attaining peace within n compassion without !

Happiness Is That Sense Of Being Thankful To This Existence And To Accept Oneself In Totality !

When All Shadows Start Falling One By One , What Remains Is The True Knowledge Essential For Leading A Contented Life Free From All Kinds of Fever, Fret n Frenzy !

When We Successfully Get Atuned With Our Inner Music or What We May Also Call, SONG OF THE SOUL, The Very Many Illusions That Sort of Put Fetters Around Us, End And The Resultant Entity Is Our REAL FACE !

THE STATE OF 'BLISS' IS WHAT WE ARE TOLD TO STRIVE FOR IN OUR LIFE AND THIS SUPREME STATE IS ATTAINED ONLY THROUGH THE ULTIMATE REALIZATION
WHICH IS THE PURE KNOWLEDGE THAT INFORMS US OF THE IMPORTANT DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE REAL AND THE UNREAL GOAL A HUMAN IS EXPECTED TO ACHIEVE !

WE MUST CULTIVATE THIS SENSE OF GRATITUDE FOR BEING BORN IN THIS UNIVERSE AND GIVEN A CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS ETERNAL 'COSMIC-DANCE' !

SUCH APPROACH COUPLED WITH A SENSE OF URGENCY WILL SURELY BE A BIG LEAP IN OUR SENSE OF BEING !

MAOIST ATTACK IN THE INDIAN STATE OF CHHATTISGARH !

NAXAL ATTACKS IN THE INDIAN STATE OF CHHATTISGARH RESULTED IN 27 DEATHS !
(a.)INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS !
(b.)INDIAN PREMIER MR. MANMOHAN SINGH !

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A few days ago the main ruling party of the UPA-Coalition government at national level had sort of taken immense self-applause n congrats saying the waning strength of the extremist groups operating in nearly 7 states of India ,was one of the most notable achievements of the incumbent govt. at the national level !

INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS (INC) or Congress Partry as commonly known, Was Saying Such Above Things During Public Meet n Press Briefs !

YESTERDAY THREE LEADERS AND A DOZEN OF WORKERS OF THE CONGRESS PARTY WERE KILLED BY THE 'MAOISTs' or 'NAXALS' IN A FORESTED AREA OF THE INDIAN PROVINCE OF 'CHHATTISGARH' !!

Yesterday's massacre of nearly 30 people including top notch leaders of the Congress, showed,in no uncertain terms that the current govt. Has failed utterly to address the issues of Extremism or Violent Maoism or Naxalism !

The Incident Took Place Around 4pm In The Valley of Darbha In The Baster Region Of Chhattisgarh !

As Per Media Reports Based On Official Stats n Eyewitness' Accounts, As Many As 100 to 150 Maoists Had Ambushed A Convoy of Congress Party Leaders Returning From A Rally In Some Adjacent Area! Two Vehicles Were Blown Up Via Landmine Blasts and An Hour Long Firings Ensued Resulting In Heavy Casualities !
Congress Leaders, Workers and Security Personnels Were Amongst The Most Hit ! Three State Level Congress Leaders Were Gunned Down and One of Them Was Mr. MAHENDRA KARMA who Was The Main Booty As He Was Amongst The Few Top Brass Politicians That Had Launched A State Sponsered Militia Named 'SALWA JUDUM' As A Counter Force Consisted Mainly of Citizens Who Are Provided With Arms n Ammunitions To Fight The Naxal Menace Locally !

It was reported today that The Maoists After Having Pumped Countless Bullets Into Mr. MAHENDRA KARMA ,Had Rejoiced The Killing By The Way Of DANCING UPON THE DEAD BODY OF MR. KARMA !

The Central Government Has Dispatched A Strong Batch of 600 Paramilitary Personnels And Given A Go Ahead For The Investigation of This Incident By N.I.A. or NATIONAL INVESTIGATING AGENCY -- a body created after the gory MUMBAI TERROR ATTACK !

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The extremists have got an unusal goal of the overthrow of the democratic ruling elites by armed insurgency and the culture of violence!

For a year or two there has been some noticeable decline in Maoist Attacks And Therefore Yesterday's Bloodbath Has Again Sent An Alarm !!

The present Indian govt. Is headed by a rather YESMAN , otherwisely hailed as a dry honest man,MR. MANMOHAN SINGH,Who does what his BOSS, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi Says and thus has no voice of his own!

MANMOHAN SINGH IS AN ACCIDENTAL PREMIER WHO IS SUCH A SCARRED MAN THAT HE HAS NOT CONTESTED A SINGLE DIRECT ELECTION BECAUSE HE AND WE INDIANS KNOW HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GATHER ANY SIZEABLE VOTES,LET ALONE WIN THE ELECTION !
He comes to the parliament on a hugely indirect election !
And, SHAME HAS NEVER BEEN AN ENTRY INTO HIS DICTIONARY !
A thoroughly corrupt man as he has always enjoyed corruption under his nose. .though he doesn't partake directly in scams n scandals and only closes his eyes n ears so that other people in his govt. could have a free reign !

'DASTARDLY-ATTACK' AND 'ATTACK ON THE DEMOCRATIC VALUES' are two expressions that he uses in his speech after every act of terrorism . .!!

A man who has flouted everything that could stand for democratic values, Mr. SINGH, IS A MOCKERY IN THE NAME OF DEMOCRACY !

SHAME !! SHAME !! SINGH IS SHAME !!

But,then he knows well that his days are numbered !

Though The Government Has Never Been Shy From Its Reiteration That It Has Launched Various Programs To Target The Possible Causes of Poverty, Hunger, Illiteracy, Lack of Health n Sanitation, Unemployment n the likes !
But, to a layman, if the results yield such pictures of bloodbath, It is commonsense to say that the government is increasingly becoming MISNOMER of sorts. . .that it is merely a huge failure n responses likewise !!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

THEODORE ROETHKE, EMINENT AMERICAN POET OF 1940s n 50s OF THE LAST CENTURY,WHOSE INFLUENCE OVER THE SUBSEQUENT POETS WAS OVERWHELMING, WAS BORN THIS DAY, MAY 25, 1908, IN SAGINAW, MICHIGAN, USA. !

Born to Otto Roethke,a gardener who had a large farm for the production of vegetables n fruits in Greenhouse Method for market export and Helen Huebner , Theodore Had a rather modest schooling which somehow paved the way for Michigan State College from where the poet had graduated and made it to Harvard Law School only to abandon the course midway.

Theodore Had Experienced Tragedies As His Father and His Uncle Died Prematurely When The Poet Was Just A Teenager And Such Losses Had Left An Indelible Imprint On The Young Poet's Psyche That He Often Gave Prominence In His Poems!

Roethke Had Had The Priviledge Of Living Amid Nature And His Childhood Days Spent Watching His Father Grow Vegetables Organically By Greenhouse, Remained One Of The Oft Recurring Theme In His Poetry, especially, His First Book of Poems Titled, 'OPEN HOUSE' .
Roethke's Poetry Has A Rather Abundance Of Natural Imagery Having Larger Meanings.

'THE WAKING' , 'FAR FIELD' are his other notable works.

Theodore Roethke Won One Pulitzer Prize and Two National Book Award, amongst various other awards, fellowships, scholarships. . .et.al !

Roethke Is Widely Believed As The First Notable Pillar of A Rather New Form Of Poetry, Known As 'CONFESSIONAL POETRY' -- poems that amplify the Subjective Treatment Of A Poet's Personal Life n Experiences And Thus Markedly Shift Away From The Eliotian Theory of Impersonality or Objective Treatments of Themes Impersonal In Nature!

This had of course put sort of limitations on the range of themes taken up by Roethke and This was something for which he was/is subjected to biting criticism!

Roethke taught at various american universities and had had many extented lecture tours in n out of the states.

At the age of 55, Theodore Roethke Died of A heart attack.

His Legacy Was Greatly Carried On By Some of The Brilliant Poets of America Like ANNE SEXTON, SYLVIA PLATH, ROBERT BLY, JAMES DICKEY, JAMES WRIGHT, STANLEY KUNITZ . . . . .!

Dylan and Fatigue are strange bedfellows,so to say !
His energy level is simply astounding and this could be verified by the sheer numbers of shows Dylan performs year round and that's been the case for countless years!

DYLAN'S MUSIC TOURS RIGHTLY NICKNAMED , 'NEVER-ENDING TOURS' !

The Most Defining Characteristic Of BOB DYLAN Is His Mastery Over LYRICS !

'LOVE SONG' -A POEM BY JOSEPH BRODSKY,POET,ESSAYIST & NOBEL-LAUREATE !

LOVE SONG.
By Joseph Brodsky.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

If you were drowning, I'd come to the rescue,
wrap you in my blanket and pour hot tea./

If I were a sheriff, I'd arrest you
and keep you in the cell under lock and key./

If you were a bird, I 'd cut a record
and listen all night long to your high-pitched trill./

If I were a sergeant, you'd be my recruit,
and boy i can assure you you'd love the drill./

If you were Chinese, I'd learn the languages,
burn a lot of incense, wear funny clothes./

If you were a mirror, I'd storm the Ladies,
give you my red lipstick and puff your nose./

If you loved volcanoes, I'd be lava
renlentlessly erupting from my hidden source./

And if you were my wife, I'd be your lover
because the church is firmly against divorce./

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

TODAY JOSEPH BRODSKY WOULD HAVE BEEN 73 !

200 YEARS OF RICHARD WAGNER, ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL & CONTROVERSIAL COMPOSERS EVER !

#wagner200 !
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
(1.) ''I write music with an exclamation point !''

(2.) ''Joy is not in things; it is in us.''

(3.) ''I am convinced that there are universal currents of Divine Thought vibrating the earth everywhere and that any who can feel these vibrations is inspired.''

(4.) ''I believe in God, Mozart and Beethoven.''

(5.) ''The oldest, truest, most beautiful
organ of music, the origin to
which alone our music owes its
being, is the human voice.''

Richard Wagner.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

T.S.ELIOT was one of the most vocal fans of Wagner's Music.

MARK TWAIN ,in his inimitable wit, quipped that he had liked Wagner's Music because it sounded better than it actually was!

OSCAR WILDE, in his notoriously witty way, said that he had a great liking of Wagner's because of its sheer loudness that allowed one to chat while the music went on and never be caught by any of what one was doing !

Many Voices And Many Responses !
Neitzsche was the bitterest critic of Wagner's Operas !

What still important is that Richard Wagner's despite being full of craziness of sorts, has no match even 200yrs after his birth and 130yrs after his death!

Richard Wagner Was Truly A Genius And Artist Of The Highest Order ! He fused many art forms unto his music : poetry, story, romance, myth n legends, folk themes, politics, drama. . . . .et.al and the resultant product was THE SIGNATURE WAGNER !

Born on May 22, 1813 in Leipzig,Germany ,Wagner remained least interested in usual academics and had been removed from schools a couple of times, yet his inclinations towards music had started to form a shape and he would come up with his first composition at 16 !

His earlier learnings in music took place in Dresden--the city that he kept coming from time to time all through his life of 69yrs. !

Highly influenced by MOZART and BEETHOVEN, Wagner had displayed a great deal of perseverance and developed his own brand of EPIC OPERAS --a rather long piece of operas that were and still are quite demanding to the performers as well as the audiences!
His lengthiest Opera,a work in four parts, called THE RING CYCLE was of 16hrs. At a stretch !!

Wagner's era was the hightime of German Romanticism and that had bearings upon his some of the most popular pieces like TRESTINE & ISOLDE !

'TANNHAUSER' , 'THE RIDE OF VALKYRIES' , 'SIEGFRIED' are two of his often conducted works globally!

A man whose personal life was no less sensational, Wagner had in him all the romantic spirits ranging from numerous affairs, marriages to revolutionary zeal , political exile. . .n so on !He took active part in the 1848 revolution and had displayed a rather extreme political view that led him to a couple of years' exile during which he visited Russia, Ukrain, Italy n France!

But, RICHARD WAGNER HAD A DEEP SEATED HATRED FOR THE JEWS AND THAT ONE TRAIT OF 'ANTI-SEMITISM' HAD MADE HIM A PERENNIAL TARGET OF CRITICISM AND AN IDEAL FOR HITLER AND HIS IDEOLOGY OF NAZISM!HITLER USED TO PLAY WAGNER'S REGULARLY AT THE THIRD REICH !

Israel doesn't allow Wagner's music !

Today there are many musical extravagenza going on around the globe pouring tribute to Wagner on what would be his bicentenary!

PLAY A SCORE OR TWO EASILY AVAILABLE ON YOU TUBE AND GETY OURSELF DRUNK IN WAGNER'S MUSIC !

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,WAGNER !

GEORGES BRAQUE,THE GREAT FRENCH PAINTER,WOULD HAVE BEEN 131 TODAY !

GEORGE BRAQUE, One of the exponents of 'CUBISM' in Art,especially, in Painting plus Sculpture, Was born this day, May 13, 1882, in Argentuile in France!

Living with his father who was a home decorater in Le Havre,Braque studied during evenings at a local art school for two years.

Georges Braque moved to Paris in 1899 to work as an apprentice under an expert decorater in order to get a certificate.

He was more interested in paintings and during his stay in Paris,he had had many inspirations for creativity after being present at many exhibitions and visiting popular art galleries.

It was the posthumous art exhibition of Cezanne's works in 1908 in Paris that had proved a turning point for Braque And he started to concentrate on painting solely under the impressionistic style.

Georges Braque learned the experimental tendencies of Cezanne and had started to explore the dynamics of light n shade, colors, space. .et.al !

Braque met Picasso in 1909 and both were surprised to learn that they were experimenting same thing and that was presenting images in fragments with the help of Geometrical Shapes!
Thus came a new style, rather a movement, popularly known as 'CUBISM' as the images when explained or analysed they appeared like a group of cubes or cubicles!

Braque and Picasso remained closely associated for a couple of years .When the first world war broke out,Braque was enlisted in French Forces and just after a year he got himself blind post an accident and was thus relieved off his duties.

Braque also painted in Fauvist Styles.

His paintings were showcased at The Famous Luvre Museum in France In 1961 --two years before his death. Thus Georges Braque Became The First Artist Whose Works Got Exhibited At Luvre During His Lifetime!

He died on August 31,1963 in Paris .

Multiple Perspective,Brilliance Of Colors,Space Between Objects and Movements in Space . . . .are some of Braque's signature traits !

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SIGMUND FREUD !

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
SIGMUND FREUD, One of the
highly influential plus
controversial minds of the last
century,who altered the various
parameters, hitherto held as
sacrosanct,in understanding
human psychology, Was born
this day,May 06, 1856 in
Frieberg,Moravia in Austrian
Empire,into a family of merchants
having limited resources,yet
adequate for a decent
upbringing of a child!

Freud's family shifted to VIENNA,
Where Freud had spent his early
life,got his education rounded
with a degree in medicine from
the University of Vienna And
started working in a government
hospital there.

Not quite satisfied with his
job,he ,on a scholarship, had
moved to Paris and it was there
that his interests in human
psychology grew plus widened
under the expert guidance of
then famous neurologist,JEAN
CHEROOT.

Freud returned back to
Vienna,opened his private clinic
and started working with his
friend,JOSEF BREUR,who had
worked on patients suffering
from severe psychological
ailments ,hysteria et.al !

Both parted ways after Breur had
found Freud's excessive reliance
upon sexuality as a potent means
to understand the root of all
psychological disorders,as not an acceptable or reasonal point!

Freud started experimentations
on both, himself as well as his
patients and had employed
various innovative methods in
unravelling the workings of
human minds.

He laid emphasis upon dreams as
another reality and through
dreams tried to corelated a
patient's present life.

He invented a new methodology
termed as COUCH THERAPY,in
which a patient was made to
seat and relax on a reclining
comfortable bed and asked to
narrate the past disturbing
memories,painful
incidents,wishful
things,suppressed
thoughts,craziest dreams,wildest
fantasies and so on,an analyst
was to jott down these things by
sitting in a friendlier way beside
the patients.Those notes were to
be analysed in order to reach at
the roots of a patient's
psychological maladies!

The method thus applied and a
few more components plus tools
of unravelling human minds and
problems by the way of catharsis
of sorts, Came to be termed as
PSYCHO-ANALYSIS!

INTERPRETATION OF DREAMS was
Freud's seminal book.

ID and EGO, THREE ESSAYS ON
SEXUALITY,CIVILIZATION. . . . . .,
PSYCHOPATHOLOGY OF EVERYDAY
LIFE are some of his other
notable works.

Freud in his later life came to
London where he died on
September 23, 1939, by an
excessive dose of Morphine as
per his wish for a permanent
peace from the unbearable pain
he had been undergoing due to
a severe throat cancer!

Today,FREUD WOULD HAVE BEEN
157 !

Let's celebrate his birthday by ten
quotes of him !
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

(1.) ''Immorality, no less than morality, has at all times found support in religion.''

(2.) ''Beauty has no obvious use; nor is there any clear cultural necessity for it. Yet civilization could not do without it.''

(3.) ''One feels inclined to say that the intention that man should be 'happy' is not included in the plan of 'Creation' .''
