Richard Wagner Was Truly A Genius And Artist Of The Highest Order ! He fused many art forms unto his music : poetry, story, romance, myth n legends, folk themes, politics, drama. . . . .et.al and the resultant product was THE SIGNATURE WAGNER !
Born on May 22, 1813 in Leipzig,Germany ,Wagner remained least interested in usual academics and had been removed from schools a couple of times,yet his inclinations towards music had started to form a shape and he would come up with his first composition at 16 !
His earlier learnings in music took place in Dresden--the city that he kept coming from time to time all through his life of 69yrs. !
Highly influenced by MOZART and BEETHOVEN, Wagner had displayed a great deal of perseverance and developed his own brand of EPIC OPERAS --a rather long piece of operas that were and still are quite demanding to the performers as well as the audiences!
His lengthiest Opera,a work in four parts,called THE RING CYCLE was of 16hrs. At a stretch !!
Wagner's era was the hightime of German Romanticism and that had bearings upon his some of the most popular pieces like TRESTINE & ISOLDE !
'TANNHAUSER' , 'THE RIDE OF VALKYRIES' , 'SIEGFRIED' are two of his often conducted works globally!
A man whose personal life was no less sensational, Wagner had in him all the romantic spirits ranging from numerous affairs,marriages to revolutionary zeal , political exile. . .n so on !He took active part in the 1848 revolution and had displayed a rather extreme political view that led him to a couple of years' exile during which he visited Russia, Ukrain, Italy n France!
But, RICHARD WAGNER HAD A DEEP SEATED HATRED FOR THE JEWS AND THAT ONE TRAIT OF 'ANTI-SEMITISM' HAD MADE HIM A PERENNIAL TARGET OF CRITICISM AND AN IDEAL FOR HITLER AND HIS IDEOLOGY OF NAZISM!HITLER USED TO PLAY WAGNER'S REGULARLY AT THE THIRD REICH !
Israel doesn't allow Wagner's music !
