Francis Ford Coppola, One of the
greatest filmmakers of all time,
was born this day,April 07 in
1939 in Detroit,Michigan,USA.
He was born in an Italian
Immigrant's Family.His father
was a famous Flutist working
with a local Symphony Group and
later on with a radio station
where he used to give
performances every evening for
a programme funded by the
great JOHN FORD.
In his(Ford) honor, the middle
name was given to the
filmmaker!
Coppola family moved to New
York in early 40s and Francis Had
Had his early education in
various schools in NY.
He had had an unusual priviledge
of having attended at as many as
23 schools !
Poor in academics,Francis had
got a keen interest in Theater n
Movies.He had an early Polio
attack and that had him
bedridden mostly.He used to
watch various movies at home
and played puppet shows.
Francis Ford Coppola later
attended Hofstra University and
University Of California,Los
Angeles(UCLA) And had got some
trainings in cinema making.
Francis ,much to the dismay of
his father who wanted him to be
an engineer, entered into the
world of Film Making in 60s and
had worked in various capacities
under a couple of renowned
filmmakers.
Francis Ford Coppola made his
first full length feature
film,PATTON in 1969-70 and had
made his mark in the world of
cinema,won an Oscar for its
screenplay.
But,it was in the year 1972, that
he attained the height --a height
that remains more like a dream
for any filmmaker !
The Movie Called, THE GODFATHER,
was ready and it broke many
newer grounds and established
Coppola As ONE OF THE TALLEST
FILMMAKERS IN THE WORLD OF
CINEMA for once and for all !
The movie was an adaptation of
MARIA PUZZO'S epinonymous
thriller and it landed Coppola his
second Oscar.
THE GODFATHER has two
sequeals ,Part II(1974) and Part
III(1990). All were hits!
Based upon the Mafiosi or Mafia
World of Italy, The Film became a
Cult Cinema in Gangster Genre !
Francis Ford Coppola made many
other movies,like APOCALYPSE
NOW, DRACULA. . . .n others,
but,couldn't attain Godfather Like
Acclaim!
THE GODFATHER is considered by
many as THE GREATEST MOVIE
EVER !
