GEORGE HERBERT, English Poet n
Priest, Was Born This Day ,April 03,
In 1593 In A Noble Family In
Welsh,UK.

Herbert, after John Donne, is
considered as the most prominent
Metaphysical Poet.

He lived for just 40yrs and couldn't
desire his works be published
during his lifetime,and in fact,very
few people were in the know that
Herbert used to scribble verses!

At his deathbed he gave his
manuscript of poems to his closest
friend,NICHOLAS FERRER, in his
parish of Bemerton,Salisb
ury,UK,Where he worked as the
parson for 3yrs before his death in
1633, asking him to try to get
them published only if they were
of any use or help for any poor
soul.

He died of consumption on March
01, 1633.

Herbert's poems were published
immediately after his death --
thanks to his friend. And, It was an
instant hit !

By 1680,it is believed ,his poems'
collection had had twenty
reprints !

The Title Of That Anthology ,is 'THE
TEMPLE. . . .'.

Like other metaphysical poets,his
works,too,saw almost an
unhealthier negligence for
centuries! AND,LIKE OTHERS OF HIS
TIMES,GEORGE HERBERT BECAME A
FOCUS OF RE-EVALUATION AND
REVIVAL IN EARLY TWENTIETH
CENTURY.
And, by and large, now, Herbert Is
Revered as one of the most
important poets of 17th cent. AND
His poems are considered as
Samples for religious poetry
writings or poetry in general !

His Poems Are Deeply Devotional In
Their Outlay And They Represent
The Inner Life Of The Poet Full Of
Conversation To God And Poet's
Meditations On Subjects Like Love,
Religion, Life, World, Role Of The
Creator, Duties Of Human Beings,
True Objects Of Human Lives ,
Spirituality. . . .and themes like
these !

The Most Striking Feature Of
George Herbert's Poetry, Is Its
Language n Imagery.
To a modern reader the language
i.e. The Choices of Words, The
Usage of Diction, The Fine Display
Of Images Laden With Deep
Meanings Plus Emotional
Undercurrents, Are Simply
Astonishing !

In Minimal Approch Herbert's
Poems Carry Successfully, The
Maximum Substance!

The Freshness Of Language Is
Rarely Matched By Other Poets! His
Inspiration Was John Donne And
That Is Well Infered When We See
The Extended Usage Of Metaphors
In Herbert's Poems!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,GEORGE
HERBERT !
