JOHN KEATS,THE ROMANTIC POET,WAS BORN THIS DAY !

JOHN KEATS (31 oct, 1795 ).
One of the greatest poets in english literature,John Keats, was born this day in 1795 in London.
He lived for 25yrs and in such a shorter period his poetic output has given him a unique position in english literature.
His mastery over the use of images and his practise of employing medieval themes into his poems for conveying some messages to the contemporary society of his time, create a special flavour which is only to be found in Keatsean Verse !

He was master of composing Odes and had written some of the finest Odes ever written in english language.
'ODE TO A NIGHTINGALE' , 'ODE ON SOLITUDE' , 'ODE ON PSYCHE' , 'ODE ON GRECIAN URN' , 'TO AUTUMN' are some of his signature odes.
He drew inspirations chiefly from Homer, Spencer, Virgil, Shakespeare and Milton.
His life had been full of sorrow and sadness.His father died when Keats was 8, his mother died of tuberculosis when he was 14, his brother Tom died of tuberculosis at a very tender age and he too died of the same disease.
His first hand experience of such pain ,loss ,misery ,suffering et.al had impacted his poetry also.
Keats also wrote on medieval themes and legends.
His epic poem, ENDYMION, tells the story of love between the moon goddess,DIANA and the earthly creature,ENDYMION.
His poem,EVE OF ST.AGNES, LAMIA, HYPERION, LA BELLE DAME SANS MERCI, are long and beautiful samples of imagination plus intuition ,the two key ingredients of Romanticism.

He died of tuberculosis at a rather young age of 25,but,it didn't pose much doubts regarding his legacy. . . .With The rise n fame of the victorian poet, Tennyson, Keats's poems got a newer thrust for the musical sounds his words create!
Keats merged myth n mythology into his poetry to weave a spellbinding effect upon the readers!

Apart from Tennyson, other poets,especially ,The Pre-Raphaelites drew inspirations from Keats and saw him as model !

Keats was a great votary of beauty and for him art was a medium to gain immortality.
