TODAY (9 Nov.) MARKS THE 84'TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF
THE GREAT CONFESSIONAL POET OFAMERICA, ANNE SEXTON !
Anne Sexton lived for a mere 45yr ,yet,her status as a poet remains paramount .
With just a couple of books published during her lifetime,Anne Sexton successfully carved a permanent niche amongst the poets of the last century.
Her poetry is marked for its emotional intensity and lyrical touch.
She was a poet of honesty and truth and had always penned poems mirroring her very own personal experiences plus private thoughts !
'TO BEDLAM AND PART WAY BACK', 'LIVE OR DIE' , ' ALL MY PRETTY ONES' , 'THREE STORIES' , '45,MERCY STREET' are some of her best creations!
She had greatly contributed to the genre of confessional poetry,though,it is pretty much difficult,at times,to put her into any single watertight compartment as her oeuvre of poetry touches many forms and styles !
A life full of depressive bouts and nightmares emanating from a rather unhappy childhood, Anne Sexton would write poems for the sake of such suppressed psyche. . . . .as a getway for an outlet having kind of a therapy!
Anne Sexton had to stay at mental care hospitals and had to undergo psycho analysis and the likes as a way for cure many a time ,especially from the late sixties till her last when on 4th ofoctober,1974 she suddenly went into her garage and died of excessive carbon monoxide!
She had had her poetry reading at Goucher College,Maryland,just a day earlier i.e. On 3 October!
Her tragic end happened the same way as that of her old pal,poet Sylvia Plath !BOTH ENDED IN SUICIDE!!
'LIVE or DIE' is Anne Sexton's masterpiece ,for which she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1967.
Anne Sexton's Poetry Survives and So She Is Alive In All Of Her Fans !
