FEDERICO GARCIA LORCA, One of the greatest spanish poets and playwrights of the last century (some critics say Lorca as The Greatest Spanish Poet of 20th-Cent.) ,Was born this day,June 05, 1898 In Fuente, Vaquaros,Spain , In a wealthy family of a liberal landowner and a pianist (Lorca's mother was an accomplished pianist and The Poet had a great attachment with her and that helped him gain a rather early exposure to music which was to come in handy when he had started composing poetry in his early 20s and made his poem very lyrical . .) .
With Four Published Dramas Namely, MARINA PINEDA, BLOOD WEDDING, YERMA, HOUSE OF BERNADA ALBA and Various Published Volumes of Poems, Most Notably, THE GYPSY SONG(BALLAD) Lorca Became Internationally Renowned And ,Of Course, Sadly, A Target Of The Repressive Regime of General Francisco Franco That Ultimately Had Cut The Poet's Life Short By Gunshots in 1936 when The Poet Was Just 38 !
Lorca was quite ahead of his time and his writings bear this.
His Was Of A Renaissance Spirit As He Sort of Revived The Traditional Spanish Folktales, Folksongs,Myths n Legends By Incorporating Them In His Poems Plus Plays!
He Was One of The Earliest Exponents of SURREALISM, To Which Lorca Was Introduced By The Famous Painte ,SALVADOR DALI and The Famous Filmmaker, LOUIS BUNUEL, When The Poet Had Shifted His Residence From Granada To Madrid In Late 1920s !
Lorca After His Fame Due To The Gypsy Ballads, Went To New York For Further Study At Columbia University, But Returned Just After A Year or So!He Observed The Citadel of Capitalism,NY And Had Penned Some Poems as well as Prose Pieces On His Stay There!
He Had Enthusiastically Supported The Republicans During The Spanish Civil War And Remained Very Critical of The Nationalist Forces .This Had Cost His Life!
Lorca's Death Remains A Mystery As The Poet Who Never Shied Away From Expressing His Radical Political Views That Had Enraged The Nationalists Endlessly Resulting In The Imprisonment and Murder of The Poet!
His Grave Is Not Located As No Records Certain Regarding The Disposal of The Dead Body Of Lorca After Been Pumped Bullets In Some Deserted Area !
By The Early 1970s , Lorca's Works Were Translated In Many Languages And His Place In The Pantheon of Literary Masters Of The World Got Fixed And Today Lorca Is Hailed As One of The Finest Lyrical Poets In The World Literature!
