CHARLES BUKOWSKI WAS BORN THIS DAY,AUGUST 16 IN 1920.
Bukowski was an american novelist ,poet ,short-story writer and above all a LA-ICON who used to give public readings of his poems and stories alongwith his signature drinking onstage!
RIOTOUS PUBLIC READINGS,as he used to describe them.
CHARLES BUKOWSKI WAS A UNIQUE WRITER WHO CAN'T BE PUT INTO ANY RECOGNISED CATEGORY,BUT,THEN HE HIMSELF WAS A CATEGORY !
He wrote primarily what he lived and observed as a wanderer who didn't like to work much for he viewed the '9 to 5' routined hours as the greatest drudgery thrown at the mankind.
He wrote about the 'low-life' of poor people, marginalia, starved and f***ed up people and of course about his own one-night-trysts,countless love-affairs and his greatest love, JANE COONEY BAKER who died very young.
THE ACADEMIA DIDN'T TAKE BUKOWSKI ANY SERIOUSLY,PARTLY DUE TO HIS WAYS OF LIVING AND PARTLY THE QUALITY (OR THE LACK OF ) OF UNEDITED GARBAGE LIKE WORKS!
But,after his demise,many universities went into rat-race to get hold of his works,manuscripts etc.!
CHARLES BUKOWSKI WORKED IN POSTAL-SERVICES TWICE,FIRST FOR LESS THAN THREE YEARS AND LATER FOR AROUND 8 YEARS!
His First Novel Was 'POST-OFFICE'.
And,His Last Novel Was 'PULP'.
His Best Novel And My Fav Is 'HAM ON RYE' which is his semi-autobiography too,wherein he basically details about his childhood memories.
CHARLES BUKOWSKI WROTE THOUSANDS OF POEMS AND IN FACT 60 BOOKS WERE PUBLISHED DURING HIS LIFE !
HE LIVED MOST PART OF HIS LIFE IN HIS HOMETOWN OF LOS ANGELES AND HE WAS GREATLY CONVERSANT WITH ITS GEOGRAPHY !
Many Films and Documentaries Were Made On His Life And His Works And A Majority Of Them During His Lifetime!
